On April 12th, 2026, the event “Quo Vadis Albania?
Between Democracy and Authoritarianism” took place as a co-organized
activity by Eugenius Foundation and ECR Group, bringing together
key political figures and stakeholders to discuss Albania’s democratic
trajectory and future.
Moderated by the Executive Director of
Eugenius Foundation, Mr. Juxhin Gjoni, the event featured distinguished
speakers, including Mr. Arkadiusz Mularczyk (MEP ECR, Poland) and Former
Vice President of the European Parliament, Mr. Ryszard Czarnecki.
With the participation of more than 30 Members of the
European Parliament, the discussion provided valuable insights into Albania’s
current political landscape and the challenges that may arise in the lead-up to
upcoming elections. Through an open and constructive dialogue, participants
explored key democratic concerns and the broader implications for the country’s
European integration path.
During the activity, participants briefed the European
Parliament on reported irregularities during the 14 May 2023 elections,
including concerns related to the involvement of criminal elements and
potential external influences. The discussion also highlighted a shared
perspective that Albania, given its cultural heritage and geographical
position, is inherently aligned with Europe. However, current governmental
policies were noted as areas requiring further attention and reflection.
The event marked a successful step toward informing both
European and American political institutions about the developments in Albania.
Most importantly, it underscored the need for continued collaboration to
support Albania’s progress toward becoming a well-governed, fully prepared
candidate for European Union membership.
